El Paso basketball player Tammy Acosta named to inaugural UTPB Athletics Hall of Fame

El Paso native Tammy Acosta, a former Americas High School star basketball player, has been selected to the inaugural class of the University of Texas Permian Basin Athletics Hall of Fame.

Acosta is one of four athletes and two coaches who will be honored at the first official induction ceremony taking place on Oct. 25 for UTPB in Odessa.

Acosta spent four years on the UTPB Falcon basketball program from 2008-2012. She finished her basketball career at UTPB with 1,483 points, 536 assists and 247 steals.

In a statement, UTPB described Acosta as a record-setting, difference-maker who was “one of the most accomplished players” in the history of the UTPB women’s basketball program.

Acosta played at Americas High in far East El Paso, where she helped lead the team to an overall record of 101-19 during that time.

As a senior she was named the All-City Co-MVP. As a junior, she averaged 17.6 points, 5.9 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game. She also helped Americas to the Sweet 16 of the playoffs as a sophomore.
