Beata Nelson Returns to Wisconsin as Assistant Swim Coach

by

Wisconsin swimming and diving head coach Jack Brown completes his coaching staff with the hiring of Badger alumna, Beata Nelson, as an assistant coach.

Nelson returns to the pool deck in the red and white, but this time as an assistant coach. The 13-time All-American swam her collegiate career with Wisconsin from 2016-2019.

“Beata Nelson has been a constant presence in Madison, and we’re proud to formally add her to our coaching staff,” Brown said. “Few people understand what Wisconsin means more than she does. She’s one of the best underwater kickers the sport has ever seen and brings elite-level experience that’s invaluable to our team. More importantly, she has a deep passion for helping student-athletes grow, both in and out of the pool. Her connection with our athletes and her commitment to this place make her an incredible asset to our staff.”

The Verona, Wisconsin native is one of Wisconsin’s most successful swim athletes both in the pool and in the classroom. During her time at Wisconsin, Nelson tallied 13 All-America honors, was a nine-time Big Ten Champion, claimed three individual National Championships at NCAAs, a two-time Big Ten Swimmer of Championships, and was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Year and the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) Women’s Swimmer of the Year in 2018-29. Academically, Beata Nelson was also an Academic All-Big Ten honoree throughout her career, received the Big Ten Medal of Honor, and a three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American.

Internationally, Nelson is a two-time member of the US National Team. At the World Aquatics World Cup, Nelson attained nine gold medals, six silver, and five bronze medals throughout her career.

From 2021-2023, Nelson served as a volunteer assistant coach with the Badgers where she assisted in with every-day practice planning, facilitated workouts with non-traveling student-athletes, and assisted with camps and clinics.
