Eugenio Suárez Trade Rumors and 2025 MLB Trade Deadline News

by

We’re keeping tracking of the latest news and trade rumors surrounding , who is a candidate to be dealt prior to the July 31 Trade Deadline.

July 24: Suárez still a top target for Mariners after Naylor trade (sources)
The Mariners swung a significant trade on Thursday when they traded for Arizona’s Josh Naylor. Could the teams link up on another big deal before the Trade Deadline?

MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer reported that Suárez is still a top target for Seattle, even after the D-backs and Mariners completed the Naylor trade. Suárez, who turned 34 last week, is having a monster year at the plate, leading MLB with 86 RBIs to go along with 36 home runs and a .918 OPS. He has six multi-homer games this season, including a four-homer performance on April 26 against the Braves.

Suárez spent the 2022-23 seasons with the Mariners, posting a .751 OPS with 53 home runs in 312 games. Seattle traded Suárez to the D-backs following the 2023 season.

July 24: The D-backs may be in selling mode, but price for Suárez ‘a ton’ (sources)
The D-backs head into this weekend’s series against the Pirates in Pittsburgh three games under .500 and 5 1/2 games out of a Wild Card spot. They appear to be on the verge of selling prior to the Trade Deadline — and already began that process after trading Josh Naylor to the Mariners on Thursday — but sources told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand that Arizona is asking for “a ton” in return for the slugging third baseman. Feinsand adds that if the price isn’t met, the D-backs could end up holding on to Suárez and try to re-sign him this offseason.

July 23: D-backs expected to shop Suárez, other pending free agents
After being swept by the Astros on Wednesday, the D-backs are 50-53 and 5 1/2 games back of a Wild Card spot. After weeks of speculation of whether Arizona would be buyers or sellers, it appears that the D-backs could become sellers.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported that the D-backs are shopping Suárez, Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly. MLB Network insider Jon Heyman also reported that Arizona is “nearly resigned to selling now” and that the D-backs will likely begin discussing those players in trades soon.

The quartet of D-backs trade targets are all impending free agents, which has made them particularly buzzworthy in recent months. Now that the D-backs have fallen further back in the standings, there’s even more incentive to move them. Of those four, Suárez is seemingly the most sought-after player, which makes sense considering he’s bashed 36 home runs with a .918 OPS. There’s reportedly no shortage of interested suitors, including the Yankees, Cubs, Mariners, Astros and Reds.

July 23: The latest on Eugenio Suárez’s market
It’s still not clear if the D-backs will deal third baseman Eugenio Suárez ahead of the Trade Deadline. But he is doing a heck of a job of increasing his potential value right now. He recorded multi-homer games last Saturday and Sunday and mashed his 36th home run on Monday. After the D-backs were swept in three games by the Astros on Wednesday, Arizona is 50-53 and 5 1/2 games back of a Wild Card spot, which will only further intensify the Suárez rumors.

Seattle isn’t the only former team that Suárez played for that is interested in bringing the third baseman back. According to The Athletic’s C. Trent Rosecrans (subscription required), the Reds have mutual interest in acquiring Suárez, who hit 189 home runs in seven seasons with the Reds from 2015-21. According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, however, the two clubs have discussed Suárez, but a deal is considered “a long shot”.
