The college basketball community received concerning news about Kansas coach Bill Self on Thursday night.
Self, 62, has been coaching the Jayhawks since 2003. The two-time national champion is undoubtedly one of the best coaches in the country, owning over 600 wins over the past two decades and change.

Unfortunately, Self has dealt with health concerns over the past three years. In 2023, he missed the NCAA Tournament due to chest tightness and balance concerns. The Hall of Famer underwent a heart catheterization at that time. With that said, he had another health scare this week.
Kansas revealed that Self had two stents inserted after experiencing “some concerning symptoms” on Thursday. Thankfully, he’s on the road to recovery.
“The procedure went very well, and he is expected to make a full recovery,” Kansas said in a statement. “He is in good spirits and expects to be released from the hospital soon.”

Immediately after Kansas provided this update on Self, countless people sent their thoughts and prayers on social media.
“Prayers get well soon Bill,” one fan said.
“Coach – rest up and enjoy your golden years. The stress of coaching likely isn’t good for your long term heart health. Best wishes and speedy recovery from a Cyclone,” a second person said.
“Prayers that Self fully recovers and can continue to coach. He is one of the best coaches in basketball,” a social media user commented.

“Bill has nothing to prove to anyone as a coach. Time to just retire and live life. He’s one of the best to ever do it,” another fan wrote on X.
Self has not yet commented on his situation. It’s unclear if he’ll coach the Jayhawks this upcoming season.
We’re wishing Coach Self a speedy recovery, that’s for sure.
