Brittney Griner made her return to Phoenix following the WNBA All-Star break.

Griner, who’s currently playing in her first season with the Atlanta Dream, played against the Mercury for the first time since her departure in the offseason.

She previously played 11 seasons with the Mercury, having led the organization to a WNBA title while being named a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, eight-time WNBA block champion and nine-time All-Star.

As she made her return, the WNBA posted a message for Brittney Griner, welcoming her back to Phoenix.

“Welcome back to Phoenix, Brittney Griner,” posted the WNBA. “BG returns to the desert for the first time since joining the Dream!

Upon the release of the post, some fans took to social media, sharing their thoughts on the WNBA’s tribute to Brittney Griner.

“A true homecoming in the desert. Welcome back, BG,” said one fan.

“Honestly this makes me sad… she was supposed to be there forever,” said another fan.

Throughout her first season with the Atlanta Dream, Brittney Griner has posted 10.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.

Griner has been a tremendous addition for one of the top teams in the WNBA. During her time in Atlanta, she’s played alongside several other stars, including Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray, both of whom earned WNBA All-Star honors this season.

The Dream wound up defeating the Mercury 90-79. Griner finished the game with 19 points, eight rebounds and one assist.
