The Indiana Fever will continue to work without sophomore sensation Caitlin Clark as the second half of the WNBA season ensues.
The Indiana Fever appear to be keeping Caitlin Clark quarantined for just a little while longer.
The reigning Commissioner’s Cup champions released a statement regarding the health of their sophomore sensation on Thursday, one that hinted at an indefinite absence while revealing that Clark endured no further injury after her groin issue last week.
“Following a July 15 injury to her right groin, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark underwent further medical evaluations earlier this week,” the team statement said. “The team can confirm that no additional injuries or damage were discovered through the evaluations. Clark will continue working with the Fever medical team on her recovery and rehabilitation, with the priority on her long-term health and well-being.”
“There is no timetable available for Clark’s return, and no additional details will be provided at this time. Any further updates will be shared as they become available.”
While Clark is averaging 16.5 points and 8.8 assists in her second WNBA tour, lower-body injuries have marred the campaign. She previously missed almost a month with a quad issue earlier in the year and the ongoing groin woes have kept her out of each of the last two Fever games, as well as the WNBA All-Star events in Indianapolis last weekend. Alongside eventual MVP Napheesa Collier, Clark was one of the captains of the two teams assembled for the event and was also scheduled to partake in the 3-Point Contest in the lead-up.
Entering a Thursday night showdown with the Las Vegas Aces (7 p.m. ET, Amazon Prime Video), the Fever (12-12) sit in seventh place on the WNBA leaderboard, a game ahead of the first team out in Golden State. They’re 5-7 with Clark sidelined so far this season, which includes a win at the aforementioned Commissioner’s Cup final over league-leading Minnesota.
With Clark still out, the Fever face a visit to Chicago on Sunday before closing the month out at home against Phoenix. A compacted road trip awaits at the start of August, as they’ll go to Dallas, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Phoenix in seven days.
