Jasprit Bumrah hits historic LOW in Manchester with embarrassing first in Tests

India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has hit a historic low on Day 4 of the ongoing fourth Test against England in Manchester. Jasprit Bumrah is known for his discipline and lethal spells, and he has rarely leaked runs in his career, but Manchester haunted him.

Actually, the fiery fast bowler conceded over 100 runs in a single innings for the first time in his 91 Test innings. Before the ongoing fourth Test against England, Bumrah’s worst figures in a Test innings were 99 runs in 28.4 overs during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia.

But in Manchester, the pressure piled up, and Bumrah crossed the 100-run mark for the first time. It was only the 6th time in his entire First-Class career (137 innings) that he’s gone for 100-plus runs. The last time he conceded more than 100 runs was during the Ranji Trophy semifinal between Gujarat and Jharkhand in January 2017.

Additionally, this was only the second time ever Bumrah bowled more than 30 overs in a Test innings. The last time he bowled 36 overs was in 2021 against England in Chennai.

However, Jasprit Bumrah is toiling hard, but the lack of support from the other end hurts India and the fast bowler badly. Former England batter Jonathan Trott pointed out how Bumrah thrives with backup but has been left fighting a lone battle in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Jasprit Bumrah was just a bit unlucky: Jonathan Trott

Jonathan Trott said on JioHotstar, “Bumrah’s areas were pretty good, and his economy reflects that—he was just a bit unlucky. But the bigger issue is pressure from both ends. Bumrah benefits massively when there’s support at the other end, and that wasn’t the case here. When you’re slightly under par as a bowling unit—like India was—control from both ends becomes crucial.”

The ongoing fourth Test match could also be Bumrah’s final appearance in the five-match Test series, as the think tank already decided that the fast bowler will play only three Tests on the tour.

Injured Jasprit Bumrah, tired bowlers haunt India as England pile on 669 runs

Recently, Bumrah gave Indian fans a scare as he was seen limping while climbing the stairs at Old Trafford. The pace ace missed a part of the first two sessions after reportedly twisting his ankle on the staircase. He had to leave the field for treatment and was unavailable to bowl during that period.

Well, Bumrah and the other Indian bowlers are starting to look tired, as their bowling speeds have dropped in the ongoing Manchester Test, and England has made the most of it. They posted the highest ever total in the test history at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground.

England posted 669 runs in reply to India’s first innings total of 358 runs, and now they are leading by 311 runs on Day 4. Now, India needs all their batters to fire all the guns blazing to have any chance to win the ongoing fourth Test to keep themselves alive in the five-match Test series.
