Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck believes Nebraska is ready for next step under Matt Rhule

by

As Nebraska football enters year three of the Matt Rhule era, other coaches around the Big Ten are starting to take notice. While speaking at Big Ten media days, Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck had nothing but nice things to say about the Huskers and believes Rhule is waking up a sleeping giant.

“One of the most dangerous teams in the Big Ten is Nebraska. I know what Matt Rhule created at Temple. I know what he did at Baylor. I know what type of human being he is. He’s awakening it, that’s for sure.”

Rhule enters his third season at Nebraska with a record of 12-13. The head coach has a track record of his program taking a significant step forward in year three. While at Temple, Rhule went from 2-10 in his first season to 10-4 in year three. While at Baylor, he went from a 1-11 record in his first season to an 11-3 mark in year three.

Fleck has had success against the Huskers since becoming the head coach of the Golden Gophers. He holds a record of 6-1 against the Cornhuskers, having won the last five games in the series. Minnesota will host Nebraska on October 17. The kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT.

The Huskers will open the 2025 college football season on Thursday, August 28, when they face the Cincinnati Bearcats at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. CT.
