Peacemaker is back—and this time, John Cena is teasing a possible shift in his character’s infamous disdain for Superman. During San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Cena and the Peacemaker cast sat down with IGN to talk about what fans can expect in Season 2. And yes, the topic of Superman came up immediately.
Season 2 of Peacemaker picks up just a month after the events of Superman, which Cena jokingly referred to as a Peacemaker prequel. If you’ve followed the series, you’ll remember Peacemaker hasn’t exactly been a fan of the Man of Steel. But according to Cena, things might be changing—just don’t expect him to spill too much yet.
Asked whether Peacemaker’s opinion of Superman had shifted after the events of the film, Cena swerved the spoiler trap with his usual style, while giving just enough to stir curiosity.
“Well, uh, that’s one of those you’ll have to wait and see in the show to find out. But uh, I’m very grateful that I was able to sneak into the Peacemaker prequel that they call Superman. Thank you very much for that… and express my opinion on Superman.”
It’s a playful response, but Cena clearly knows what he’s doing. The actor acknowledged his surprise cameo in Superman and implied there will be more developments between the two characters moving forward. Fans who were waiting to see if Peacemaker’s grudge would intensify or soften got a hint—but no confirmation.
Cena also poked fun at how Peacemaker’s priorities have shifted, especially when it comes to joining the Justice Gang. When asked how serious Peacemaker was about becoming part of the team, he downplayed it with his usual dry wit.
“I think it goes from being very high on my priority list to very low on my priority list—just ahead of eating spaghetti for dinner.”
While he’s clearly not giving away key plot points, Cena’s humor and deliberate phrasing hint that Season 2 may show Peacemaker growing—or at least thinking twice before trying to pick a fight with another god-tier hero.
Peacemaker Season 2 drops August 21 on HBO Max, and from what Cena shared, it looks like there’s plenty more chaos—and maybe a little emotional evolution—to come.
