Chicago Sky on Wrong End of WNBA History in 38-Point Loss to Storm originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
It was a forgettable night for the Chicago Sky on Thursday as they suffered an embarrassing 95-57 loss at the hands of the Seattle Storm. The 38-point loss marked Chicago’s biggest defeat of the season, and it saw them fall to 7-17 at the midway point of the campaign.

Angel Reese was a late scratch for the Sky in this one, with the two-time All-Star being forced to sit out due to a back injury. Reese has been leading the league in rebounding this season, and her absence was evident on Thursday as the Storm outperformed the Sky on the boards, 39-31.
This was thanks in large part to Seattle rookie Dominique Malonga, who secured a career-high 10 rebounds off the bench. The 6-foot-6 center also registered a career-high 14 points, which allowed her to make WNBA history.
“HISTORY FOR THE ROOK 🌟 With a career-high 14 PTS & 10 REB vs. the Chicago Sky, Dominique Malonga (19y 250d) becomes the youngest player in WNBA History to record a double-double, surpassing Liz Cambage (19y 290d),” the league posted on X.

The Seattle Storm Have a Bright Future in Dominique Malonga
Malonga, the second-overall pick of the 2025 WNBA Draft, hasn’t exactly taken the league by storm in her debut campaign. The 19-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance, though, which were on full display on Thursday night.
Heading into the Sky game, Malonga had averaged 4.1 points and 2.9 rebounds in 9.0 minutes per contest. These are far from mind-blowing numbers, but her performance against Chicago is an indication of how the future is bright for both Malonga and the Storm.
