40 WNBA players were in attendance for the WNBA’s recent Collective Bargaining Agreement meeting with ownership during All-Star weekend in Indiana.

One of the most prominent voices and presences in the room, two-time All-Star Chicago Sky power forward Angel Reese, didn’t officially hold a leadership role in the union. At least, not yet.
Reese’s recent activity could be presaging an eventual run for a WNBPA union leadership role, posits Alissa Hirsh of The Chicago Sun-Times. Reese herself alluded to this as well.
“I learned so much this past weekend how important it is to speak up and speak your voice,” Reese said of the CBA meeting. “Coming down, I will be a union leader because I know how important it is.”

Reese’s Chicago teammate Elizabeth Williams, who does hold a leadership role in the union as the secretary of the executive committee, applauded her interest in the process.
“She was really attentive in the meeting and asking me questions,” Williams said. “And she’s asking questions even outside of that.”
10-time All-Star Seattle Storm power forward Nneka Ogwumike, currently the union president, was similarly enthused about Reese’s attendance.
“I was so happy to see her in the CBA meeting,” Ogwumike said. “She came to me and was like, ‘We should have more people.’ And I was like, ‘Oh!’ Because I was just happy we had that many players show up. And I thought, you know what? I need to think bigger.”

Ogwumike, writes Hirsh, was a big part of the league’s 2020 CBA, which at the time represented a major step forward for players. Since then, of course, the WNBA has grown by leaps and bounds, in large part thanks to the emergence of Reese and two-time All-Star Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark.
The league recently inked a $200 million media rights broadcasting deal, and is slated to earn over $1 billion in expansion fees as it continues to add new teams for the rest of the decade.
“They show a lot that they care about our generation, not just theirs,” Reese said of older players like Ogwumike. “They don’t know how much longer they’ll be playing. They’re doing it for our younger generation.”

In another recent piece, Hirsh revealed how Reese’s Sky teammates are encouraging her development as a scorer this season.
On the court, Reese has been a great defender and rebounder for Chicago, although her offense has been spotty at times. Across 22 healthy games for the Sky, the 6-foot-3 LSU product is averaging 13.8 points on .448/.211/.778 shooting splits (all improvements over her 2024 rookie season), 12.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.6 blocks for the 7-17 Sky.
