Seth Lugo agrees to contract extension with Royals (source)

Seth Lugo and the Royals are finalizing a new contract extension, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Sunday night. The club has not confirmed the deal.

Lugo has been a top-of-the-rotation starter for Kansas City since he signed there as a free agent in 2023. In his first season with the team last year, he was an All-Star and finished second in the American League Cy Young Award voting.

There were rumors that the Royals might consider trading Lugo, who could have been a free agent after this season, but instead they decided to commit long-term to the veteran right-hander.
