Gunnar Henderson hits go-ahead home run in win over Cubs

CHICAGO — Coming out of Thursday’s Trade Deadline, various members of the Orioles reiterated their belief in the long-term outlook of the organization. Sure, the team traded nine big leaguers during its July fire sale and will start to look more toward 2026. But a strong core remains in place.

The core will continue to be powered by , who provided that exact reminder in impressive fashion on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Henderson clubbed a go-ahead three-run home run in the eighth inning, lifting the O’s to a 4-3 victory over the Cubs. The Statcast-projected 416-foot blast to right-center field marked the 13th home run of the season for the 24-year-old, who has been raking of late.

Entering Saturday, Henderson was 10-for-27 (.370) with four extra-base hits and seven RBIs over his previous seven games. He collected another pair of hits in this win, including the biggest swing of the day — his left-on-left jolt off Caleb Thielbar.

The Orioles’ scoreless streak had reached 18 innings heading into the eighth (including the first 16 frames to come after the Trade Deadline). The drought ended on Jordan Westburg’s two-out RBI single that cut Chicago’s lead to 3-1. Henderson’s homer immediately followed.

The four-run eighth began with a walk by Colton Cowser and a single from Jeremiah Jackson, who has gone 3-for-6 over his first two MLB games this weekend.
