Junior Nationals Day 4: Teagan O’Dell Stuns With Back-to-Back Wins
The 2025 U.S. Junior National Championships continued from Irvine, California, with the Day 4 finals.
The events on the schedule include the women’s and men’s 50 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 breaststroke.
Here is a look at what happened on Day 4:
Junior Nationals: Women’s 50 Butterfly
In an extremely fast race to start the night, three swimmers bested the meet record in the event.
Commonwealth Swimming’s Mena Boardman held the record at 26.74 after her swim in prelims and bested that to win in 26.25.
Beach Cities’ Gabi Brito got to the wall in 26.47 to also best the previous record, as did Sierra Marlins’ Jada Duncan (26.57).
Empire KC’s Lucy Velte was fourth in 26.84, followed by Ball State’s Anna Keen (26.91), Elevation Athletics’ Eliza Lennox (27.11), who tied with Schroeder YMCA’s Alana Berlin (27.11) and Sporting Jax Aquatics’ Penny Zarczynski (27.62).

Junior Nationals: Men’s 50 Butterfly
After a blistering women’s event, two of the men broke the meet record in the 50 fly, keeping the speed going.
Mason Manta Rays’ Brady Campbell took the win in 23.90, besting his meet record from prelims (24.13). Scarlet Aquatics’ Joey Stauss was also ahead of the previous mark, finishing second in 24.03.
Third place went to Neptune’s Finn Brophy (24.26), followed by Greater Toledo’s London Rising (24.33), Dart’s Brandon Ha (24.37), Team Vortex’s Samuel Lofstrom (24.42), Katy Aquatics’ Connor Jones (24.66) and Lakeside Aquatic’s Maxwell Stanislaus (24.76).

Junior Nationals: Women’s 200 Freestyle
Pleasanton Seahawks’ Teagan O’Dell nearly broke 2 minutes in her 200 free victory, getting to the wall in 2:00.02.
It turns out she was saving a little something for later – in the next event.
La Mirada Armada’s Kayla Han was just behind in 2:00.77, followed by Episcopal’s Blakely Hammel (2:00.83) and Irvine Novaquatics’ Alyssa Ton (2:00.84).
Fifth went to Circle City’s Charlotte Milkie (2:01.91), followed by Fishers Area’s Emily Wolf (2:02.27), Long Island’s Lily Gormsen (2:02.46) and Wahoo Aquatic Club’s Adair Shaw (2:02.54).

Junior Nationals: Men’s 200 Freestyle
Long Island Aquatics’ Sean Green picked up another win on Saturday, this time in the 200 free. The 18-year-old got to the wall in 1:47.97.
Irvine Novaquatics’ Derek Hitchens was second in 1:48.55, ahead of Enzo Solitario (1:48.62).
Fourth went to Mason Manta Rays’ Jason Zhao (1:48.91), followed by King Aquatic Club’s Andrew Coombs (1:50.27), Pleasanton’s Tim Wu (1:50.35), Carmel’s Trent Allen (1:50.71) and Schroeder YMCA’s Ethan Schutten (1:51.78).

Junior Nationals: Women’s 100 Backstroke
Teagan O’Dell made it a golden double on Saturday with a win in the 100 back. After winning the 200 free, she came back one event later to win again.
The 18-year-old won the backstroke in 1:00.11 to cap her spectacular night.
Maggie Dickinson continued her strong meet with a second-place finish in 1:00.90, ahead of Ellie Clark, who was also under 1:01 at 1:00.98.
Brynn Livigueur took fourth in 1:01.18, followed by Roos Rottink (1:01.24), Lane Francis (1:02.07), Eva Rottink (1:02.17) and Maya Schweikert (1:02.28).
Junior Nationals: Men’s 100 Backstroke
Flatiron’s Gavin Keogh was a winner again, this time breaking the meet record in the 100 back. The 17-year-old won the race in 53.86.
The previous meet record was 54.41 set by Zionsville’s Will Modglin in 2022.
Waterloo’s Aaron Gordon finished second in 55.64, followed by Nashville’s Blake Amlicke (55.77), Alpha’s Miles Blackson-Dunbar (56.27), Rise’s Kasper Lee (56.31), Williamsburg’s Andy Roose (56.33), Northeastern’s Aiden Gerst (56.46) and Rockville’s Griffin Oehler (56.99).

Mason Manta Rays’ Adalene Robillard claimed the win in the 200 breaststroke, getting to the wall in 2:27.11, finishing a second ahead of the field.
San Ramon Valley’s Mikayla Tan finished second in 2:28.13, ahead of Santa Clara’s Mia Su (2:28.82).
Revolution Aquatic’s Sarah Zhang took fourth in 2:30.24, followed by Mecklenburg’s Kayda Geyer (2:30.81), Lakeside’s Avery Collins, Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics’ Sophia Umstead (2:32.66) and Razorback’s Lexie D’Amico (2:33.36).

SwimMAC’s Jordan Willis finished more than a second ahead of the field to claim the 200 breast in 2:12.54.
Hurricane’s Giulian Martin was second in 2:13.74, followed by Hornet’s Matt Vatev (2:14.26), Franklin Regional’s Lucas Ackerman (2:14.88), Commonwealth’s Gerhardt Hoover (2:15.65), Foothills’ Tobin Uhl (2:16.11), Nitro’s Oliver Munn (2:16.29) and Carmel’s Yi Zheng (2:16.46).
