Jordan Spieth pick labeled “wild” as Ryder Cup speculation intensifies

by

Keegan Bradley is under enormous pressure from the public, and it seems that his mindset will be an important link in the entire process.

The public is weighing in from all sides; while some insist that Bradley should not serve as a player-captain, others are ready to criticize his decisions.

Keegan will have to pick six players for his Ryder Cup team.

There are several names circulating, and it is clear that whatever decision he makes, the public will react violently, wondering why someone else is not playing.

One of the names that is mentioned more and more in the public is Jordan Spieth, a golfer who is showing a fraction of his former form this season.

Andy Johnson, a well-known face on the golf scene, is not convinced that Spieth would be the right choice.

His reaction was somewhat harsh, going so far as to say that picking Spieth would be wild.

“If they roll out Spieth and he doesn’t do anything for the next couple of weeks, if they play their buddy ball, the fans are going to have the knives out,” he said, as quoted by The Golfing Gazette.

“The Spieth selection is wild. He’s 27th in Ryder Cup points. He might not make it past the first week of the playoffs. If it wasn’t for sponsor exemptions, he wouldn’t even be in the playoffs.

This is the thing, this is where the Spieth thing just does not make sense, how you could put him on this team. He’s 27th in points, and in between there you have guys that are playing quantitatively good golf."

Names that might get a chance

Jordan Spieth hasn't been consistent this season either, but a few flashy performances have convinced some that the seasoned golfer could be the right fit for the US team.

However, some are not convinced that Jordan would be the right addition for this team, as his inconsistency is not exactly an indicator that he will excel at this year's edition.

Johnson mentioned several names that would definitely be a better option for the US team.

Among the key names that are mentioned more and more are Young and Gotterup.

Still, it is difficult to answer whether Bradley has the same views and visions.

“You’ve got Cameron Young, you’ve got Gotterup, you’ve got Wyndham Clark starting to play better. And Wyndham Clark’s won a major this decade. You have so many guys that are actually playing good golf.

I don’t understand how the numbers are saying that Spieth is playing good golf, because when I roll down his list of accomplishments, it’s like T35, T22, T38. I don’t understand the numbers and how Data Golf has him so highly thought of.”- he concluded.
