OU women’s basketball SEC schedule set: See who Sooners play in 2025-26 season

by

NORMAN — OU women’s basketball will open its second SEC slate Jan. 1 at Texas A&M, the league announced Tuesday.

The Sooners, expected to compete near the top of the league in 2025-26 with plenty of returners plus the addition of five-star prospect Aaliyah Chavez, open their SEC home slate Jan. 4 against Mississippi State.

The toughest stretch of the schedule figures to come not long after when the Sooners play at Kentucky on Jan. 11 followed by home games against LSU (Jan. 18) and South Carolina (Jan. 22).

OU fell to Kentucky 95-86 last regular season before beating the Wildcats, 69-65, in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament.

The Jan. 18 game against LSU will feature the return of Kim Mulkey to Lloyd Noble Center.

Mulkey went 13-8 in Norman as Baylor’s coach from 2000-21 before taking over the Tigers.

The Sooners fell at LSU, 107-100, last season.

Four days after playing Mulkey’s Tigers, OU will host the powerhouse Gamecocks, last season’s NCAA Tournament runners-up.

The Sooners fell at South Carolina 101-60 during last regular season but hung with the Gamecocks until late in the SEC Tournament semifinals before falling 93-75.

OU will host Texas A&M on Jan. 29 in the Aggies’ first game at LNC since February 2012.

The Sooners’ lone matchup with Texas comes Feb. 1 in Austin.

On Feb. 22, OU hosts Tennessee in just the Vols’ second-ever game in Norman. The Sooners fell to Tennessee in December 2004 at LNC. The teams did play twice in Oklahoma City since then, in 2009 and 2013.

Tipoff times and broadcast designations will be announced at a later date.

While the Sooners’ full non-conference schedule hasn’t been released, OU will host North Carolina State on Dec. 3 as part of the SEC/ACC Challenge and will take on Oklahoma State on Dec. 13 at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City in a renewal of the Bedlam series.

Expectations for the Sooners are plenty high after going 27-8 last season and making the Sweet 16, where they fell to eventual champion UConn.

OU returns plenty of experience, including Raegan Beers (17.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.2 blocks per game), Payton Verhulst (14.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists) and Sahara Williams (10.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists).
