Roman Reigns may have taken three crushing Tsunamis from Bronson Reed on WWE RAW, but reports of his Hollywood exit were, once again, premature.
While Dave Meltzer claimed the beatdown was meant to write Reigns off TV so he could begin filming the Street Fighter movie, a new update confirms that Reigns will be sticking around — and we already know when he’s back. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer stated the RAW segment was done to clear Reigns for the movie shoot:
“Well, I think that Roman… well, Roman’s going to be out filming the movie. So, you know, I thought that was an injury angle to take him out for a couple weeks.”
He also added that Reigns would be joined by Cody Rhodes and Hirooki Goto on set very soon:
“Yeah, no, I mean him and Cody and Hirooki Goto are filming that Street Fighter movie, you know, pretty soon. Yeah, like, like pretty imminently, yeah.”
But PWInsider quickly poured cold water on that timeline. According to their report, Street Fighter doesn’t even begin filming until September, and Reigns won’t be needed on set until September 2nd:
“We’ve been asked about rumors that Roman Reigns was beaten down on Raw to write him out to film the forthcoming Street Fighter film. In speaking with Hollywood sources, the Street Fighter film does not begin production until September and Reigns is slated to work for four weeks on the set, starting on 9/2.”
They further added:
“As long as the production runs on time, we are told Reigns would finish his commitments the week of 9/26. Cody Rhodes also has a role in the film, but we are told he is not expected to be on set as long as Reigns.”
Now, in a new update, it’s been confirmed that Roman Reigns is advertised for WWE RAW in two weeks in Philadelphia. That appearance lines up with the Street Fighter filming dates and confirms The Tribal Chief isn’t done with WWE just yet.
So while the storyline on RAW may have teased a dramatic exit, fans can expect Roman Reigns to be back in the mix at least one more time before Hollywood calls. And once again, another one of Meltzer’s reports gets exposed before the ink’s even dry.
