Payton Talbott teases UFC fight news: ‘What I wished for’

Payton Talbott thinks dropped a name in the octagon to Joe Rogan after his UFC 317 win over Felipe Lima in June, and now it might become a reality.

After bouncing back from his first career loss with a unanimous decision over Lima during International Fight Week, Talbott (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) called for a showdown with fellow bantamweight striking Adrian Yanez (17-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC) for later this year.

According to Talbott, UFC matchmakers are seemingly into his idea, and it might not be long before the fight is officially offered and signed.

“I think I’m going to get what I wished for,” Talbott told MMA Junkie Radio. “Things are looking good for that. Hopefully November, Madison Square Garden, and things should be good for then. We’re definitely working on it.”

Talbott, 26, was touted as one of MMA’s brightest prospects prior to losing his unbeaten record to Raoni Barcelos at UFC 311 in January. He’s back on track now, though, and a matchup with Yanez would provide the opportunity to build more momentum toward where he wants to be – at the top.

“I think if I keep doing my job right,” Talbott said. “Keep putting my head down and staying focused, it could be around two-and-a-half years, two years (until I’m champion).”
