Shane van Gisbergen's first year as a full-time driver in the NASCAR Cup Series has been nothing short of a resounding success. He's won three of his last eight races and has already qualified for the NASCAR Cup Playoffs in his first full season.

But what does the future have in store for the 36-year-old rookie? He's competed in many different circuits and won races or championships in just about all of them. Does he see NASCAR as his long-term job?

The answer appears to be a resounding yes.

On Friday, Gisbergen's Trackhouse Racing team announced that it has agreed to a multi-year contract extension with SVG. Length and terms are not yet available.

A rapid ascent

In just three years Shane van Gisbergen has competed in 34 NASCAR Cup Series races and 35 NASCAR Xfinity Series races. He's won eight races between them, making him the winningest foreign-born driver in NASCAR history.

Not bad for a guy with only one full season in each series.

But it's not like he came out of nowhere, per se. As mentioned earlier, the New Zealand native has competed in – and won – races and series around the world, including three Supercars Championship titles and multiple endurance races.

Trackhouse Racing

Things appear to be a little more murky for his Trackhouse Racing teammate Daniel Suarez. Last month the two sides mutually agreed to part ways at the end of the season.

FOX NASCAR insider Bob Pockrass reported on Friday that Suarez is expected to be replaced by Connor Zilisch in the No. 99 car on a full-time basis next year.

"Trackhouse has announced it has signed Shane van Gisbergen to a multiyear contract extension. And for those wondering, while not announced yet, still expect Connor Zilisch move to Cup for 2026 to replace Daniel Suarez," Pockrass wrote.

How high can SVG climb in the NASCAR Cup Series?
