Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever did not have the best ending to their four-game road trip, falling to the Phoenix Mercury 95-60 and dropping their second straight. Now, they will get to return home as the Chicago Sky come into town on Saturday.

Late in the second quarter of Thursday’s loss, Cunningham gave everyone a scare as she limped back to the locker room with a left ankle injury. She was unable to start the second half but later returned.

The Fever guard also appeared to have a black eye at one point in the game.

Fever Make Final Sophie Cunningham Decision

Ahead of the Fever’s game against the Sky, Indiana released its latest injury report Friday, and it wasn’t pretty. Caitlin Clark remains out for a 10th straight game with a groin injury, and the Fever are now without any point guards after Aari McDonald (foot) and Sydney Colson (torn ACL) suffered season-ending injuries.

On the bright side for the Fever, Cunningham, despite the couple of injury scares against her former team, has not been listed on the injury report and will be available to face the Sky (via Indy Star’s Chloe Peterson). She will be one of the few guards Indiana has left.

The Sky will be without All-Star Angel Reese for a fifth consecutive game. Ariel Atkins and Hailey Van Lith remain questionable.

Cunningham’s Impact In First Season With Fever

Cunningham spent her first six years in the WNBA with the Mercury, facing her former team in Phoenix for the first time on Thursday. Amid Diana Taurasi’s retirement over the offseason, the Mercury elected to trade Cunningham to Indiana, and it has worked out for the Fever.

Averaging 8.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game in 2025, Cunningham had been a key factor for Indiana off the bench to start the season. However, as she adjusted to her new role with her new team, Cunningham earned a spot in the starting lineup over the last nine games, replacing Lexie Hull. The Fever are 5-4 in those contests, including a five-game winning streak, all without Clark.

In her starts, Cunningham is averaging 12.0 points on 57.8% shooting and 3.0 rebounds per game.

Following the Sky game, Cunningham and the Fever will be back in action on Tuesday, hosting Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings.
