There is no doubt that Jannik Sinner is showing an impressive level on hard courts and no one has come close to his performances on this surface in the last year and a half, as all the statistics regarding the current world number 1 certify.
The Italian ace has literally dominated the last three Grand Slam tournaments played on this surface and will also be the top favorite at the US Open, scheduled in New York from August 24 to September 7. The 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria lifted the trophy in the Big Apple last year thanks to a run bordering on perfection, made even easier by the premature eliminations of Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic during the first week.
After winning the Wimbledon Championships for the first time in his career and missing the Canadian Open in Toronto, Jannik returned to action at the Cincinnati Masters 1000 on Saturday and demolished Daniel Galan leaving the latter with just two games in less than an hour.
Sinner is dominant
At just 23 years old, the Italian champion can already boast the third highest percentage of wins ever on this surface. He is only preceded by 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, who had recorded better percentages in the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
Through his official X profile – however – the former American star Mardy Fish hinted that the opponents of the Swiss legend at that time were decidedly superior to those he has to face at the moment.
“Now do who Roger had to deal with against who Sinner has to deal with… I’ll hang up and listen” – he wrote.
Jannik's next opponent in Ohio will be young Canadian talent Gabriel Diallo, who will at least try to put the four-time Grand Slam champion in difficulty.
The potential path of the Italian star in Cincinnati seems to have become even smoother after the premature eliminations of players such as Lorenzo Musetti, Casper Ruud and Tomas Machac.
