USMS Summer Nationals: 26 Records Broken in Federal Way

The 2025 U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS) Summer National Championship took place at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center on Aug. 6-10. There were 1,105 swimmers from five countries competing.

Federal Way hosted its fifth USMS pool national championship, its first since 2007.

The oldest competitor was Frank Manheim at age 94. There were four other swimmers who are at least 90 and 29 others who are in their 80s.

There were four Olympians competing, including local swimmer and Team USA’s Rick Colella (1976, 1 bronze medal). The other Olympians are Puerto Rico’s Francisco Canales (1976) and Team USA’s Kurt Grote (1996, 1 gold medal) and Dan Jorgensen (1988 and 1992, 1 gold and 1 bronze medal).
