Report: BYU Basketball to Open with Miami in ESPN Events Invitational

by

BYU’s Thanksgiving opponent is set as BYU will play the Miami Hurricanes in the first round of the ESPN Events Invitational, according to Jon Rothstein. BYU will play either Georgetown or Dayton the next day on Friday, November 28. The games will be broadcast on ESPN Networks and take place in Orlando, Florida.

Miami was one of the worst power conference teams last season, but overhauled its roster and coaching staff this offseason. Miami essentially turned over its whole roster and brought in a recruiting class ranked 17th in composite rankings, according to 247 Sports. That rating combines incoming freshmen, transfers, and international signees. Former Duke Assistant Jai Lucas is Miami’s new head coach. 6-foot-9 Indiana transfer Malik Reneau was one of the top additions for Miami in the portal. Reneau averaged 13.3 points and 5.5 boards last season for the Hoosiers. Miami also added Michigan starting point guard Tre Donaldson from the transfer portal, who averaged 11 points and 4 assists for the Wolverines.

BYU will be heavy favorites to win this event, no matter who they face in the second game. All three opponents are Quad Two caliber teams (Net top 100 on neutral floor) and could represent solid wins for BYU.
