Carlos Alcaraz is through to the last 16 at the Cincinnati Masters. The Spaniard faced Hamad Medjedovic in the third round and scored a 6-4, 6-4 victory in an hour and 35 minutes.
World no. 2 outplayed his rival behind the first and second serve in challenging conditions.Carlos faced two break points and lost serve once. He generated seven break points and seized three to control the scoreboard.
The favorite served well in the first set and clinched a break in a marathon game seven. They traded three straight breaks in the middle of the second set. The Spaniard secured two and brought the win home with two fine holds.

Hamad played valiant tennis. He outpaced Carlos 28-25 in service winners and landed 25 direct points and 38 unforced errors. World no. 2 embraced a more reduced 16-18 ratio and took charge in the shortest rallies up to four strokes.
They served well in the opening six games of the duel. Medjedovic squandered seven game points at 3-3 and got broken on the fourth break point after a costly double fault.
Alcaraz provided fine holds in games eight and ten, wrapping up the set with a service winner at 5-4 for an early lead after 46 minutes. The Serb got broken in the fifth game of the second set.

He pulled it back in the next one and locked the result at 3-3. However, the Spaniard provided another return game a few minutes later after a poor drop shot attempt from the Serb.
Like in the opener, Carlos served well when it mattered the most and sealed the deal with a booming serve at 5-4 to book a place in the last 16.
