Missouri alum Sophie Cunningham stats from Indiana Fever loss to Dallas Wings

Former Missouri women’s basketball star Sophie Cunningham scored 14 points, but a late Indiana Fever comeback bid fell short in an 81-80 loss to the Dallas Wings on Tuesday night, Aug. 12 in Indianapolis.

Cunningham shot 5-of-10 from the field and was 2-of-2 from the free throw line in the loss. The Columbia local and former Rock Bridge high star was 2-of-4 shooting from 3-point range, where she is shooting 43.9% this season.

The Mizzou alum has now scored double-digit points in 11 of her past 14 games.

She also had two rebounds, three assists and one turnover in the loss. She recorded a +6 plus/minus during her 34 minutes on the floor.

Cunningham was 4-of-5 from the field in the first half as the teams went into the break tied. She did not score again until late in the fourth quarter, but knocked down a triple and had a perfect trip to the free throw line in the final five minutes of gametime.

Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 24 points, and Aliyah Boston matched Cunningham’s 14 points. The Fever were playing without a bulk of their guard rotation as Caitlin Clark, Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson sat out injured. Maddy Siegrist led Dallas with 22 points.

The Fever, now 18-15 on the season with three losses in their past four games, dropped to sixth place in the WNBA standings and are now 9.5 games behind the league-leading Minnesota Lynx. Indiana remained third in the Eastern Conference standings, three games behind the New York Liberty.

Entering the matchup, Cunningham was averaging 8.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game this season.

Earlier this year, Cunningham was announced as a member of Missouri athletics’ 2025 Hall of Fame Class. The Rock Bridge High grad is the all-time leading scorer for Mizzou women’s basketball with 2,187 points. The Tigers have not been to the NCAA Tournament since Cunningham graduated in 2019.

Indiana and Cunningham next face the Washington Mystics at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
