The world lost Hulk Hogan at the age of 71-years-old. The man was a myth and a legend, but his name was also wrought with controversy.
“TMZ Presents The Real Hulk Hogan” aired on Tuesday, August 12th, at 8 PM Eastern Time on FOX. It gave fans a new perspective on Hulk Hogan, and they spoke to someone that WWE didn’t put on television as part of their tribute: Vince McMahon.
Although he is retired, Vince McMahon was still available for an interview with TMZ. The former Chairman of the Board answered a couple of questions, including why he brought Hulk Hogan back to WWE after his racist scandal.
“I knew he wasn’t racist, I’d been with him for several years. We wasn’t racist, he said some racist things and he should pay for that, and he did. But in the end, I think everyone saw the real Hulk Hogan and they felt that this guy doesn’t act like a racist, he’s not a racist. We all make mistakes, that was a big one, but he wasn’t a racist.”
Vince McMahon also made it clear that he was furious about how fans treated Hulk Hogan during his return to the company. They booed him mercilessly at WrestleMania, and that reaction brought headlines while furthering the narrative that the Hulkster wasn’t forgiven. In fact, some WWE Superstars reportedly had an issue with participating in his 10-bell salute.
Hulk Hogan is gone, but he will never be forgotten. The Hulkster meant a lot to his fans, and several gathered at Hogan’s Hangout just this week.
