One of the biggest wildcards for the Oklahoma Sooners in 2025 just gave fans the ultimate news that everyone’s been begging for originally appeared on A to Z Sports.
When the Oklahoma Sooners made the decision to target Deion Burks in the transfer portal last season, everyone was excited, and rightfully so. In a very bad program and a very bad offense at Purdue, Burks was amazing. So, imagine him on the Sooners, right?

Well, not exactly. The first game for him was amazing, as he had three touchdowns in that one game. Outside of that and his third game, where he had 80 receiving yards, that would be pretty much all we would see from him for the entire season.
It’s not that Burks was bad, because he was pretty good considering the bad scheme, bad playcalling, bad offensive line, and bad quarterback play. It’s more so that an old saying applied to him all too well.
“Availability is the best ability.”

Sooners fans get a perfect update on Deion Burks
Last year, Burks played in just five games, but was never really the same health-wise. And, he was never able to be featured the way he should have been.
Now, he’s healthy.
“I’m feeling great health-wise, man,” Burks told reporters on-site on Monday after practice. “This is the best I have felt since I have been in college, truthfully. Had a great day of practice today… It’s been a learning experience. Definitely, last year didn’t go how I expected, so I learned from it. So, it’s been great this year, I have no complaints. Working with John Mateer and Ben Arbukle has been great.”

Somehow, Burks still had 31 catches for 245 yards and three touchdowns. And that’s with everything going on that I mentioned just a second ago. In this new offense, if he can stay healthy, he can easily be a 1,000-yard receiver. He has the quarterback, the offensive scheme, the play caller, and the weapons around him to take some pressure off of him.
And the Sooners should have a great run game to help set up that passing game.

So, to hear that he is healthy is exactly what Sooners fans needed to hear, because they’ve been begging for that for a while now.
