Penn State preseason offensive MVP predictions

by

Penn State is in an enviable position this season by returning its starting quarterback and both leading running backs behind a steady offensive line. Just those ingredients alone have led to Penn State makign a case for being one of the top-ranked teams in the preseason polls for the upcoming season, but the addition of some quality wide receivers from the transfer portal and the expected continued develiopment in the tight end pipeline gives the Nittany Lions a number of reasons to be excited about what offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki will be able to dial up this season.

After sharing our bold predictions and our biggest questions for the Nittany Lions this season, the time has come to give our predictions for the team’s offensive MVP. As you will see, there were only two options for our staff this season, and they may be the two most obvious picks. Which one do you think is the right answer?

Here is what we had to say about Penn State’s offensive MVP for the 2025 season.

Christopher Sheppard: Nicholas Singleton

It may be a little cliché to pick someone who has already done so much for Penn State and will most likely see his name ascend the record charts this season, but I truly believe Nick Singleton to be the straw that stirs the drink in this offense. Of course, we have to also address the elephant in the room, as Singleton, with another 1,000-yard season, could potentially be Penn State’s all-time leading rusher. Add that to the fact that he is perhaps the most established player in this Penn State offense, and it lends itself to another formula of success for the senior.

The only roadblock may be his partnership with Allen in the backfield, plus the addition of the transfer receivers whom Penn State wants a good return on. But if all else fails, the Nittany Lions at the very least know they have a reliable source of production behind Drew Allar. He may not be the speedster that Penn State fans expect to see, but he may not have to be if this offense reaches its full potential.

Sam Woloson: Nick Singleton

If I could pick both Singleton and Kaytron Allen, I would, because I think the running back duo will be unbelievable in 2025. Both backs eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing last season and complement each other nicely. I give the edge to Singleton here just because of his versatility.

Singleton is a good kick returner and made strides as a receiver last season with 375 yards and five touchdowns on 41 receptions. Plus, he can still lower his head and get the tough yards in short yardage. I think he’s the total package, and together with Allen, the Nittany Lions will run about as well as any team in the nation.

Toluwani Akintunde: Drew Allar

No hesitation. He’s got the experience now, he’s got weapons around him, and he’s finally in a system that’ll let him cut loose. I think this is the year he stops playing safe and starts dominating. He’ll still have Singleton and Kaytron Allen to take pressure off, but with better playcalling and more aggressive reads, this is Allar’s offense now. If he plays to his potential, he could be the best QB in the Big Ten.

Andrew Deal: Drew Allar

There will likely be a debate between Drew Allar and the running back duo, but the team will reach the top of the mountain if Allar can take the next step. Already a projected top quarterback in next year’s draft, Allar can catapult his stock with another impressive season.

Some will say last season’s offensive mishaps were not on Allar, but it also couldn’t fully be on the receiving corps. Allar has all the pieces around him with two of the top running backs in the country, a more versatile receiving room and one of the best offensive lines in the country, for him to be the quarterback he was recruited to be. Penn State will surpass last year’s semi-final mark if Allar does take that next step, making him the offensive MVP.

Kevin McGuire: Drew Allar

I am torn between Nicholas Singleton and Drew Allar, but I went with the quarterback simply because I think Penn State will go as far as Allar will lead them. If Allar makes a mistake, it could be the biggest difference in a game. Penn State has given Allar his best assortment of talent around him, including at the wide receiver position. When Penn State was winning big moments last season, Allar was playing a pivotal role in those developments. On the flip side, Penn State’s most notable shortcomings have tended to come as a result of Allar’s worst performances or moments. If this year is going to have a different ending, Allar will be the reason why.
