Tony Khan Calls Claims of Lack of Storytelling in AEW a Total “Falsehood”

by

AEW President Tony Khan didnโ€™t hold back when it came to people who claim AEW doesnโ€™t have good storytelling at all, as he quickly shut down such claims.

While speaking to Z100 New York, Tony Khan dismissed claims that AEW lacks storytelling, saying the companyโ€™s storytelling is just as strong as itโ€™s ever been. He stated that AEW is known for great in-ring action, but said the stories this year have also been excellent.

The AEW President used Jon Moxleyโ€™s World Championship run as an example, pointing out that even when some people questioned it, it proved to be strong storytelling.

โ€œI think the stories in AEW have been as strong as ever. People will say AEW is great โ€” and I think a lot of people would concede that the action in wrestling, the athletic action, is absolutely fantastic. Everyone agrees on that. But also, if you havenโ€™t seen the show lately or if youโ€™re just listening to a false narrative โ€” and you can tell me honestly whether you agree with this or not, Josh โ€” I think the stories in AEW have been fantastic this year.

Weโ€™ve been talking for a long time about some of the great stories in AEW, and you even just said how fantastic you thought some of the storytelling around Jon Moxleyโ€™s World Championship reign has been. People even questioned that aspect of it, and I think that was proven right.โ€ But certainly, whether you love them or not, nobody can question that thereโ€™s a lot of storytelling in AEW. I think itโ€™s fantastic, and a lot of the fans who actually pay attention to it think itโ€™s great.โ€

Khan said that while not every fan will love every storyline, AEW always has plenty of them, and many fans who watch closely enjoy them a lot. He called the claim that AEW has a lack of stories not just wrong, but something false that people spread.

โ€œBut certainly, whether you love them or not, nobody can question that thereโ€™s a lot of storytelling in AEW. I think itโ€™s fantastic, and a lot of the fans who actually pay attention to it think itโ€™s great. But there will be people โ€” tell me if you agree with this or not โ€” there are people who would say thereโ€™s a lack of stories in AEW, and I donโ€™t agree with this. I think itโ€™s untrue. I donโ€™t think thatโ€™s true at all. I think itโ€™s not only a misconception, but a falsehood that people spread.โ€

At the end of the day, Tony Khan is proud of all the storylines in AEW so far and itโ€™s clear he couldnโ€™t care less what haters have to say and thatโ€™s unlikely to change anytime soon.

Do you agree with Tony Khan that AEWโ€™s storytelling is great, or do you feel the company still needs to improve in that area? Sound off in the comments.
