A Connecticut-based group featuring Marc Lasry and the state of Connecticut matched the reported $325 million bid from Steve Pagliuca to purchase the Connecticut Sun.
If successful, the group would move the team to Hartford and play home games at PeoplesBank Arena.
The state would then fund the cost of a new practice facility for around $100 million near Hartford.
Pagliuca’s bid involves moving the team to Boston as early as 2027.
Pagliuca’s offer is considered more complete at the moment, with the Connecticut group still needing approval from lawmakers to build the practice facility.
The payment of a relocation fee to the WNBA on top of the sale price could make the difference on where the team lands, according to Front Office Sports.
Houston is reportedly the league’s preferred destination for the Sun.
