The initial charge filed against former UFC two-division champion Jon Jones for an alleged hit-and-run incident in February has been dismissed.

According to New Mexico court records, prosecutors dropped a misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident charge Wednesday citing nolle prosequi. TMZ Sports first reported the news.

It’s unclear why prosecutors made this decision, but as of Wednesday, Jones still faces two charges in an additional case that was filed days after the first one. Those charges are another leaving the scene of an accident charge and also for use of telephone to terrify, intimidate, threaten, harass, annoy, or offend.

For those charges, Jones is currently scheduled for a bench trial Sept. 2 in Albuquerque Metropolitan Court.

Charges were filed in June, stemming from the alleged Feb. 21 incident, during which police say they found a half-dressed and seemingly intoxicated woman in the passenger seat of a car in the middle of an intersection following a collision.

The woman said Jones had been driving and fled the scene. She dialed who she said was Jones on her phone. The man’s voice threatened the officers, even mentioning he had friends who could kill them. The man never identified himself as Jones.

Police released body camera video following the alleged incident. Jones later appeared to implicate himself as the voice on the phone.

Jones’ attorney, Christopher Dodd, denied Jones was driving the car the night of the incident and said the woman was intoxicated and made a false accusation, which police fell for.
