Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has been unable to stay healthy during her second WNBA season, missing the last 10 games and 20 overall.

When she does play, Clark has been one of the best in the league, unafraid to show off her competitiveness. But sometimes, opponents don’t appreciate it, including Connecticut Sun star Marina Mabrey.
In the Fever’s 88-71 win over the Sun on June 17, Clark and Jacy Sheldon got into a small shoving match after the Fever guard took a shot to the face. Mabrey took exception to Clark’s actions by coming in and pushing Clark down to the court.
Clark, Mabrey and Tina Charles received a technical foul, while Sheldon received a flagrant.

Over the weekend, Mabrey spoke to Sportskeeda’s Mark Medina about the incident. When asked about her perspective on the moment with Clark, Mabrey had a lot to say.
โI thought it only got upgraded to a flagrant 2 because the way the fans reacted to it,” Mabrey said. “They gave me a tech for it. I donโt care, honestly. I really donโt. Obviously, Iโm not trying to hurt anybody. Iโm not trying to go after certain players for certain (expletive).”

Mabrey added that she and Clark know what to expect when facing each other.

“Me and Caitlin were cool,” Mabrey continued. “Me and Caitlin have competed against each other in the playoffs. She threw me into the benches in the quarterfinals. We didnโt go after her for it. Sheโs competitive, and I was about to get the ball. I get it. Throw me out of bounds. We got back up and kept competing.”
Mabrey finished by claiming she “overreacted.”
“So at the end of the day, it was a play on the ball when she did it,” Mabrey commented. “And I probably overreacted a little bit. But my teammate is getting hit, and Iโm not okay with that. It wasnโt like, โI hate her! Here I go!โ I donโt do stuff like that. Everybody knows that Iโve never done that before.โ
