Breanna Stewart Eyes Return to New York Liberty Lineup originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The New York Liberty need all the help they can get when staying in the race for a potential spot in the WBNA Finals this season. Breanna Stewart is one of those players Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello is counting on to help.

For now, though, Stewart is reduced to just cheering from the sidelines. Stewart suffered a bone bruise in her right knee in late July. It forced her out of action, which not is a good thing for New York at all.
The Liberty have been squaring off with the Minnesota Lynx in some games recently. While Stewart has been out, the Lynx have been playing without WNBA MVP candidate Napheesa Collier. With two top players out of the league right now (lest anyone forget about Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark also out due to a groin injury), it puts a strain on their teams.
Nevertheless, Stewart said that she’s hopeful for a return pretty soon. “I feel great. I just finished working out on the court in the back,” Stewart said on Sunday, according to The Associated Press.

“And it’s really just kind of giving my leg, the bone a little bit of time while we have it. But hoping to be back sooner than later and really just wanting to be back with my team.”
As of Monday, August 11, the Liberty are 20-11 overall, tied with the Atlanta Dream (20-11) for second place overall in the WNBA standings. They are 6.5 games behind the front-running Lynx (27-5).

Brondello has been watching Stewart rehab her knee and do her best to quickly return. It’s something that Brondello probably hopes happens as soon as possible. “I feel like this is the hardest part for me because I’ve been out,” Stewart said. “Like I’ve been out, but I’m not usually out when I can go back in. So I want to be back.”
Stewart’s birthday is on August 27, so she definitely wants to do all she can to get back by that date. “I’m on the training staff to let me be back to free me a little bit. But definitely, like, before my birthday,” Stewart said.
