Riddle upset some important people in the WWE locker room.
Matt Riddle recently spoke with TMZ Sport discussed past tensions with several high-profile names in wrestling and how honesty can create friction backstage. He was not shy about name-dropping Goldberg, CM Punk and Roman Reigns.
Apparently, Riddle upset the OTC when he spouted off about how he could beat him in a legit street fight. That being said, he admitted that Roman Reigns would beat him in the ring. Nevertheless, Reigns was pretty heated about this.
“And the thing is I noticed this even with Bill Goldberg and certain people I rubbed the wrong way. Even Roman Reigns at one point I rubbed the wrong way. They get really angry when you spit facts. So if I say you’re hard to work with, and you can’t fight, CM Punk gets really mad, right? If I said Goldberg, you’re a terrible wrestler and you injured people, he gets mad. You know, Roman—they asked me to talk crap about Roman. I told everybody, ‘Hey, he might beat me in the ring, but if we were in a cage or in the street, I’d beat the hell out of him.’ And he knows that, and I know that and everybody else knows that. And Roman got upset about that. But from what I’ve noticed, and it’s crazy because we’re in this world of sports entertainment, but a lot of people get really angry and really uncomfortable with the truth—and especially fans as well.”
Riddle also had something to say about Roman Reigns’ former Shield brother, Seth Rollins. He accused the Visionary of limiting his promos during their WWE feud.
Matt Riddle pointed to his remarks about CM Punk, Goldberg, and Roman Reigns as examples of comments that sparked heated reaction. He stood by his remarks as well, because Riddle lives by the adage that he is real, so if they can’t take the heat then stay out of the kitchen. This, obviously, rubbed more than a few of his peers the wrong way.
Riddle’s feud with Goldberg was legendary, but they never met in the ring. Instead, Riddle kept throwing shade at him during interviews. Goldberg later called Riddle “a booger in his nose.” Riddle did the same trolling act with Brock Lesnar, and although this never resulted in a real match, the two did have some heated words backstage at the 2020 Royal Rumble.
