The Florida Gators were as hot as could be on the recruiting trail during June and early July. However, head coach Billy Napier and the Gators have struggled since, as they’ve watched target after target end up in the hands of SEC rivals.

Florida needed a big win in the recruiting game this month to improve its top-15 class in the nation for 2026.

Napier and his team got that win on Monday, as four-star wide receiver Davian Groce announced his commitment to Florida through Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett. This pledge hands the Gators their first recruiting victory since July 12.

“Can’t wait to be a part of the Swamp, Go Gators 🐊,” Groce said.

Groce chose Florida over the Oklahoma Sooners, Houston Cougars and Baylor Bears. He is the No. 60 overall recruit and the sixth-best wideout in the country for the 2026 class, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound speedster has played both running back and wide receiver for Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas. Through his first three years in high school, Groce has run for 2,185 yards and 24 touchdowns, while catching 98 passes for 1,711 yards and 15 more scores, per MaxPreps.

Groce is a multi-sport athlete who runs track and also plays basketball at Lone Star. In track, he was the Texas 5A 200-meter state champion as a junior last year, according to 247Sports.

With his commitment, Groce becomes Florida’s highest-rated recruit in the class of 2026, per Rivals. He is also the third wide receiver commitment, following four-stars Marquez Daniel and Justin Williams, who both pledged in June. The Gators now have 19 total commits in the class, 14 of which are blue-chip recruits.

Although this is a big win for Napier and Florida in recruiting, they won’t stop there. The Gators will look to make it back-to-back days with a commitment as five-star edge rusher Jake Kreul, a top target of Florida’s, will announce his pledge on Tuesday.
