Indiana Fever Officially Announce Signing of Five New Team Members

The Indiana Fever are literally in a world of hurt right now. Their cornerstone superstar, Caitlin Clark, still has no timetable for her return as she continues to deal with a troubling groin injury. Last week, following the Phoenix Mercury matchup on Thursday, the team lost both Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson to season-ending injuries, thereby leaving them with no healthy true point guard on the roster.

The Fever addressed this major issue by signing veteran guard Odyssey Sims on a seven-day hardship deal. The 33-year-old is expected to make her Fever debut on Tuesday when they take on Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings.

As it turns out, Indiana wasn’t done. After recently adding Sims to the roster, the team announced on Monday that they have officially added five new members to the squad.

As the post indicates, the Fever have signed five athletes from the Special Olympics of Indiana. The signing ceremony was done after the team’s practice on Monday, and the newest additions to the squad are seen putting pen to paper on their respective deals alongside their own Fever jerseys.

Clark led the cheering as the entire Fever team welcomed their new teammates with rousing applause.

While this is an inspiring gesture by the Fever in supporting the athletes from the Special Olympics, the fact remains that the squad remains extremely shorthanded at this point in the season. Sims’ arrival provides some much-needed relief, but she won’t be able to fill the massive void the Fever is dealing with on their own.

This squad will need to continue turning in concerted efforts as they look to hold down the fort until Clark’s eventual return. The Fever must do just that on Tuesday when they host the 8-24 Wings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
