UFC suspends heavyweight Alvin Hines for failed drug test

by

UFC heavyweight Alvin Hines has been suspended one year.

UFC anti-doping program Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) announced Friday that Hines (7-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) tested positive for anabolic steroids Drostanolone and testosterone in an out-of-competition drug test June 20 and out-of-competition tests June 28 and July 5.

According to CSAD, Hines knowingly took the prohibited substances prior to his UFC signing but purposefully did not disclose their use on his promotional onboarding form.

Since Hines was cooperative with the investigation, he received a one-year suspension that will terminate on July 11, 2026.

Hines, 33, took his debut fight on short notice against Jhonata Diniz at UFC 317 in June. He lost by unanimous decision but was praised for the heart and durability he showed over the course of the three-round bout.

Hines has not publicly commented on the drug test failure.
