Updated schedule for World Archery Youth Championships in Canada

by

The schedule for this week’s World Archery Youth Championships in Winnipeg (Canada) has been condensed due to the travel challenges facing teams as a result of the ongoing industrial action by employees of Air Canada.

Many flights into the country and city have been cancelled since the strike began on 16 August.

World Archery staff and event organisers have been in direct contact with teams as they attempt to source new transport routes, and tentatively delayed the start of competition to facilitate flight rebooking. While this will not have been possible for all 569 registered competitors, many have found alternative solutions.

The following tentative new schedule for the event has been released, preserving as much of the competition as possible in a condensed timeframe.

  • Wednesday 20 August: Qualifications
  • Thursday 21 August: Eliminations
  • Friday 22 August: Eliminations and team finals (afternoon)
  • Saturday 23 August: Compound finals
  • Sunday 24 August: Recurve finals

At this stage, only one broadcast finals session has been cancelled (Friday morning) and only the team gold medal matches will be produced, rather than bronze and gold.

No planned competition phases have been cancelled, thanks to the event organisers securing an expanded eliminations field of play.

The final schedule for the event will only be confirmed (or adjusted again) at the team managers’ meeting, which is taking place in the afternoon of Tuesday 19 August.
