A few posts reporting Klaasen’s release from the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) went viral on social media, and the fans have been left wondering whether there is any truth to the matter.
SRH retained Heinrich Klaasen for ₹23 crore
The explosive South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman Klaasen was retained by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for a whopping Rs. 23 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Alongside Klaasen, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) retained Pat Cummins (Rs. 18 crore), Abhishek Sharma (Rs. 14 crore), Nitish Kumar Reddy (Rs. 6 crore), and Travis Head (Rs. 14 crore).
Klaasen was retained for a massive amount because of his good performance in IPL 2023 and 2024, where he scored 448 runs at a strike rate of 177.07 and 479 runs at a strike rate of 171.07.
With the retention, Klaasen set a new benchmark and became the most expensive player ever retained by an IPL team ahead of an auction. He broke the record of Virat Kohli, who was retained for Rs 17 crore by Royal Challengers Bengaluru back in 2017.
However, that Kohli record was also breached two more times before IPL 2025 mega auction because both Virat Kohli (RCB) and Nicholas Pooran (LSG) were handed a 21-crore retention, three crore more than the designated slab.

SRH to release Klaasen with eyes on Cameron Green?
On Monday, August 18, a post from an X user went viral, which claimed that the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are likely to release Heinrich Klaasen and Mohammed Shami to free up some funds.
It was claimed that the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will use that money to spend on the Australia young all-round sensation Cameron Green because captain Pat Cummins wantst him in the squad.
However, a Times of India (TOI) journalist, Gaurav Gupta, was quick to shut down the report and quoted the post stating, “Not true!”, claiming that Heinrich Klaasen is likely to remain with the franchise in the next season as well.

Recently, SRH shared a video on X.com where Heinrich Klaasen was asked some fun questions by the franchise.
When asked who in the squad was the mirror magnet, Klaasen responded with a laugh and named Ishan Kishan. He said, “Doing a couple of shoots with him, I would say Ishan (Kishan).”
He also stated that the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Kishan is too worried about his looks.“Ishan really needs to get his hair perfectly to be happy,” Klaasen remarked.
“We did a shoot and he was unbelievable,” Klaasen recalled when asked about the best actor in the SRH squad.
