As basketball season approaches, NC State’s men’s and women’s programs are set to play a preseason exhibition doubleheader on Oct. 26 at First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro, the athletic department announced Monday morning.
The two-game slate will feature the women’s team against former ACC rival Maryland, while the men’s squad will face off with South Carolina in the preseason games. The women’s game will begin at 2 p.m., while the men’s game will follow at 4:30 p.m.
NC State and Maryland have a long history between the two women’s teams in spirited league tilts. While this meeting will not count towards the all-time series, the Wolfpack holds a 45-36 record against the Terrapins, including victories in the last four contests.
Wes Moore’s squad most recently beat Maryland 78-60 in Nassau, Bahamas during the 2021-22 campaign. The Terrapins last edged the Wolfpack during the 2012-13 season — the penultimate league clash between the two programs — in an 82-62 result.
NC State’s meeting with Maryland will be the Wolfpack’s second public exhibition game of the season. The Pack is scheduled to host High Point at Reynolds Coliseum for the program’s first preseason tune-up on Oct. 18.
The men’s team, meanwhile, is only scheduled to play South Carolina in an open preseason exhibition. The Gamecocks, also an original founding member of the ACC, were the Wolfpack’s closed scrimmage opponent ahead of last season.
Although the two teams have faced off in closed door preseason meetings in the past, NC State and South Carolina haven’t played each other in public since the 2008-08 season. The Wolfpack holds a 30-17 record in the all-time series, including a 63-61 win in the most-recent tilt between the two programs.
Tickets for the doubleheader are set to go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m.
NC State’s men’s team will host NC Central at the Lenovo Center on Nov. 3 to begin the Will Wade era, while the women’s squad is set to return to First Horizon Coliseum to open the 2025-26 regular season against Tennessee on Nov. 4 (4 p.m., ESPN2).
