Steve Sarkisian offers opinion on former Bama five-star QB being named OSU starter originally appeared on The Sporting News
Ohio State officially named Julian Sayin as their starter for this upcoming season. As some may recall, Sayin, a five-star quarterback out of California, initially signed with Alabama but later transferred to Ohio State after Nick Saban retired.

Sayin was one of six quarterbacks Alabama had on the roster when they faced Michigan in the Rose Bowl during the 2023 season.
All six quarterbacks are now starters or have started in college football.
The list includes:
Jalen Milroe, Alabama
Ty Simpson, Alabama
Eli Holstein, Pitt
Dylan Lonergan, Boston College
Tyler Buchner, Notre Dame/Bama
Julian Sayin, Ohio State
Alabama arguably had one of the best quarterback rooms in the country, filled with several five-stars.
Even Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian offered him a scholarship to play for the Longhorns, so the coach wasn’t shocked that he was named the Buckeyes’ starter.

“A ton of respect for Julian. We recruited him hard here. He was a very gifted passer, a really good player. Came to camp with us I want to say two years in a row, and so we’ve got a lot of familiarity with him,” Sarkisian said via Burnt Orange Nation. “So very good player, elite passer, very good arm talent, very quick release, really accurate guy.”
“Obviously, he’s got great weapons around him and he’s the type of guy that can utilize those weapons in a good system,” he said. “So it poses a heck of a challenge.”
Both teams will be playing first-time starters in their upcoming matchup but the Longhorns may have an advantage because Arch Manning has started before when he stepped in for the injured Quinn Ewers last year. But with both teams having two new starters, it will be fascinating to see which talented quarterback will come out on top.
