ATLANTA — The White Sox scored a total of five runs during four straight losses leading into their series opener Monday night against the Braves at Truist Park.
They topped that total in the fourth inning alone against Spencer Strider during a 13-9 victory, ending a seven-game road losing streak. They also temporarily broke loose from a 2-11 funk after posting a 10-4 mark immediately after the All-Star break.
Holding a 1-0 lead in the fourth, the White Sox started the frame with an Andrew Benintendi single and a long home run to left from Luis Robert Jr. That 405-foot drive gave Robert 101 home runs for his career against 100 stolen bases.
Kyle Teel and Chase Meidroth singled, and Brooks Baldwin, who homered in the third, walked to load the bases with nobody out, followed by Mike Tauchmanās two-run double to end Striderās night. Miguel Vargas added a sacrifice fly and Lenyn Sosa singled home a run to put Chicago ahead 7-0 after the fourth. Sosa added a three-run blast in the sixth, his team-best 17th.
Yoendrys Gómez made his second start for the White Sox, a rotation opportunity heāll get in the short term with Sean Burke being optioned to Triple-A Charlotte prior to Mondayās contest. The right-hander allowed three runs on seven hits in five-plus innings, striking out three.
