Iga Swiatek admitted to being in a race against time to make it to the US Open mixed doubles after landing her maiden Cincinnati crown.
On Monday, the third-seeded Pole handled the business versus Jasmine Paolini 7-5 6-3 in the Cincinnati final.
On Tuesday, Swiatek is slated to already be back on the court – but in a completely different city – since she is signed up to compete in a star-studded US Open mixed doubles event. The Pole's opening match with Casper Ruud against Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe is scheduled as the second on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
After beating Paolini, Swiatek joined the Tennis Channel for a conversation. While the 24-year-old is excited about taking part in one of the most unconventional formats in quite some time, she also admits the circumstances aren't ideal.
"You need to kind of adjust from the beginning anyway. So, I'm excited to go today and play tomorrow. The schedule is tight. Hopefully I'm going to make it to the flight," the reigning Cincinnati champion said on Tennis Channel.

Swiatek hopes she can translate her Cincinnati form into the US Open
Since winning her first US Open title in 2022, the former world No. 1 hasn't really had much success at Flushing Meadows – in 2023, she was upset by Jelena Ostapenko in the round-of-16, before losing to Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinal last year.
'It's a long tournament, a Grand Slam, so, for sure you need to use that confidence and the experience you get from the previous one, but I don't know how the surface is," the six-time Major winner noted.
If reigning Wimbledon champion Swiatek wins the US Open, she will win back-to-back Grand Slam titles for the first time in her career.
