Mileseey Golf just released their GenePro G1 hybrid laser rangefinder GPS unit and it is amazing.
I probably should have built things up a bit before making that statement but this thing is just that cool. The Mileseey GenePro G1 rangefinder may be the most complete rangefinder system I’ve ever encountered.
Prior to the Mileseey GenePro S1 earning the Staff Pick in the 2025 Best Golf Rangefinder competition, I had never even heard of Mileseey.
(That’s is a little embarrassing since the company has been around since 2014.)
After running the GenePro G1 through the testing gauntlet, I believe Mileseey will soon be a name everyone recognizes.
Mileseey GenePro G1: Not just a laser rangefinder
I’ve tested more than my share of laser rangefinders through the years. Most of the time, the learning curve involves finding the “on” button and pointing the unit at a target.
That was my initial plan for the Mileseey GenePro G1. I soon realized this was more than just a point-and-shoot device, and I mean that in a good way.
Should you only want to shoot lasers at flags, the Mileseey GenePro G1 can do that. However, laser actuation is but one of its functions.
I’ll give you the laser rundown first. After that, we will start opening the nesting doll that is the Mileseey GenePro G1’s abilities.
Strong optics and lightning-fast lasering
If the Mileseey GenePro G1 was only a laser rangefinder, I’d still be impressed with it. It has all of the characteristics I look for in a laser.
It’s really fast; the literature says it reads distances in 0.1 seconds. I don’t have a timer that precise but the Mileseey GenePro G1 is without a doubt super-fast. Not only does it pick up targets rapidly, but if the flag has reflectors, the speed is even faster.
Almost immediately after you press the targeting button, you will be rewarded with a bit of “locked on” vibration and a green ring around the targeting reticule.
The Mileseey GenePro G1 has 6x magnification, 90 percent light transmission, and can lock on targets at up to 600 yards with +/- 0.5-yard accuracy. The maximum targeting range is 1,300 yards just in case your home course has a par-9 hole.
The ergonomics are spot on. The unit fits comfortably in my average-sized hand without feeling bulky. Having three buttons on the top initially led to some errant pressings but that went away quickly with use.
We will get to those other buttons in just a second.
The unit has both “with slope” and “without slope” settings. Switching between modes requires just a turn of a dial. The red color on the dial when the slope setting is activated is a nice reminder that it is on. Also, it is a quick way to check that your buddies are not using slope during tournaments.
As a basic laser rangefinder, the Mileseey GenePro G1 is first-class. As you will soon see, the Mileseey GenePro G1 is so much more than a basic rangefinder.
Ball to Pin

With the press of a button, you can easily switch from standard linear distance measurement to Ball to Pin triangulated measuring. In this mode, you shoot one target, then shoot a second one. The Mileseey GenePro G1 will then tell you the distance between the two.
This feature is the best response to cart path-only play I have encountered. From the cart, you can shoot your ball, then the flag, and the Mileseey GenePro G1 will tell you the distance between the two.
Now you can grab the right club for that distance from the cart and head to your ball. Say goodbye to taking three or four clubs with you for every shot.
I frequently used this feature when I was waiting for another person to hit. I would shoot my ball and the flag while they were hitting so I would be all set once I got up to my ball.
This is one instance where adding an electronic device to your round could actually speed up pace of play.
The addition of the Ball to Pin targeting option makes the Mileseey GenePro G1 a multifunctional laser but still only scratches the surface of what it can do.
Did you notice the gigantic touch screen?
The Mileseey GenePro G1 is a hybrid GPS and laser rangefinder. The concept of combining a GPS with a laser is not new, but Mileseey’s execution of the concept is one of the best I’ve seen.
The 2.13-inch AMOLED touchscreen takes up most of one side on the unit. It fires up immediately when you press the laser button, unlocking a massive amount of additional features.
The Mileseey GenePro G1 comes pre-loaded with data for over 43,000 golf courses. For each hole, you will see an overview of the hole’s shape, which can be switched to a close-up view of the distances on the green.
The touchscreen is very bright and responsive. If you are worried about battery life, don’t be. The USB-C rechargeable batteries allow for 24 hours of operation. That should translate to four or five rounds of golf before the unit needs recharging.
Adjusting the settings and selecting the golf course require just a couple of menu navigations and button presses. The GPS on the Mileseey GenePro G1 pairs very quickly with the satellites. Almost as soon as you turn it on, it knows where you are and asks which course you are playing.
The GPS software will allow you to select intermediate targets, determine the actual distances for various pins, and even give you a pin-directed compass-like pointer to assist in making blind shots.
Like with the laser side of things, if the Mileseey GenePro G1 was just a dedicated GPS rangefinder, it would be a solid performer. But it is not just a GPS.
When you pair the laser action with the GPS functions, things get really exciting.
Communication between the laser and the GPS
The way that the Mileseey GenePro G1 integrates the functions of the laser and GPS elements separates it from other GPS/laser hybrids.
A simple example of this is how the slope-enabled reading that you just shot with the laser is adjusted not just for target elevation, but also temperature and humidity data supplied by the GPS.
The distance that you just measured with the laser will now also be shown on the GPS display.
The bottom line is that the Mileseey GenePro G1 is not just a GPS hooked on to a laser rangefinder. This is a complete range-finding system where both components work together.
Oh yeah, it will also keep score and track your shots
If all of that is not enough for you, the Mileseey GenePro G1 will allow you to keep a detailed shot record for your round. You’ll need to download the Mileseey Golf app for your Apple or Android phone, but once you do, you will be able to use the Mileseey GenePro G1 to collect all of your shot data for a round and then review it on your phone.
All you will need to do is tap the icon on the screen or the button on the bottom of the unit after you take your shot, and the position data will be recorded. Now you can know how far that 7-iron actually goes.
A case for one improvement
The functionality of the carrying case was only one thing I found lacking when I was using the Mileseey GenePro G1 on the course.
Visually, the case is gorgeous. It looks like a high-tech cocoon for an important piece of technology. It protects the unit and easily clips on a golf bag. The zippers keep everything nice and snug.
My issue with the case is one of access. Opening and closing the case every time took time. Many other companies have added quick toggle closure systems to their cases to speed up access on the course. I wish this case had something like that.
As I carried my bag and the attached Mileseey GenePro G1 case, I zipped it closed after every measurement. I didn’t want it to fall out during my travels toward my ball’s new location.
After the first round, I used the dedicated laser pocket in my Vessel bag instead of the case. That was a better solution in terms of speeding up access. However, it did require that I remove all of the other gear that usually lives in that pocket.
On the riding cart, I just dropped the unit into the cup holder. From the cart, the Ball to Pin measuring was exceptionally useful. I found myself frequently measuring my next shot while my cart partner was taking his shot.
The case issue is a minor critique. I bring it up because the function of the case did play into the overall function of the Mileseey GenePro G1 on the course. Just like lacking a magnetic attachment point influences how the unit is used in a power cart. The unit itself does amazing things. There are just a few small enhancements that could improve the overall experience.
Mileseey made it but Victorinox would be proud
You could callhe Mileseey GenePro G1 a “Swiss Army” rangefinder. It shoots lasers at targets, triangulates targets, talks to satellites, tracks your shots, holds a significant charge, and has all of its parts working together.
I was initially a little intimidated by the expansive functionality of the Mileseey GenePro G1. There is a steeper learning curve for this one compared to a more traditional dedicated laser. That said, most of the operations are intuitive, and the operations quickly become routine.
After just a few holes, I found myself focusing on my shot rather than on how to use the rangefinder.
If you like simple rangefinders, the Mileseey GenePro G1 may seem like it is too much for you. Remember, you don’t have to use all of the features. Like I said, as just a laser, the optics, accuracy and ease of use are enough to justify putting it in the bag.
The data junkies will truly enjoy the Mileseey GenePro G1 experience. Not only will it give you significant data on the course, but you can use it to keep track of how you played. The Mileseey GenePro G1 will let you tell all of your friends how temperature and humidity influenced your distances, and also that you flew the 165-yard green with your 8-iron.
Don’t forget that even with all of the data from the Mileseey GenePro G1, you still need to hit the shot.
The unit is not inexpensive at $599. However, there is a $200-off coupon currently active on Amazon.com. I’m not sure how long this discount will last, though.
