Ana Ivanovic warns Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz that Novak Djokovic can win US Open

Ana Ivanovic says "remarkable" Novak Djokovic can absolutely win the US Open as the former Serbian female tennis star believes the 38-year-old still has the quality to do big things.

In 2023, Djokovic became the first man in tennis history to get to 24 Grand Slams when he won the US Open. What has happened since then is well-documented as Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have established as dominant forces and no one besides those two has won a Major since 2024.

When it comes to Djokovic, he finished as runner-up to Alcaraz in the 2024 Wimbledon final. This year, the Serb has been consistently making deep runs at the Grand Slam level – but after three Majors played in 2025 – he has as many semifinals. At the Australian Open, the current world No. 7 retired against Alexander Zverev before picking up losses to Sinner at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Before taking on Sinner in the Wimbledon semifinal, Djokovic injured his leg during a nasty fall. The 38-year-old hasn't played since Wimbledon and some argue the lack of matches is only making it harder to believe in the Serb's US Open chances.

Ivanovic: I do think Djokovic can win the US Open, he's just really remarkable

“I do think so. I do think so, because he’s just really remarkable – I said [earlier] his age, but he’s not that old at all – but just to be so mentally strong and still physically very fit," 2008 French Open champion Ivanovic told Sporty.

“Because it is a big toll on your body, and he’s been reducing the tournaments he’s been playing, which completely makes sense. But, at the same time, at the final stages, you might need some of that match fitness and so on. But still, his recovery after matches, his physical strength and mental strength are still there, so I can definitely see him going far.”

If Djokovic fails to lift the title at Flushing Meadows, he will go two full years without a Grand Slam title since the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
