Ohio State football black stripe alert: Freshman receiver enters the ‘brotherhood’

by

Can you feel it? You can almost taste it. The start of the college football season is almost upon us and that means we’ll get to see the defending College Football Playoff champion Ohio State Buckeyes kick things off soon. In fact, in a little over a week, the Buckeyes will play the most anticipated regular-season game of the 2025 season when they take on the No. 1 Texas Longhorns next Saturday.

Before that, though, we’re keeping an eye on things that are happening during Ohio State’s fall camp, and one of those things is reporting to you when an OSU freshman or newcomer sheds his black stripe. And … on Wednesday, receiver Phillip Bell received the honor to become a part of the Buckeye brotherhood officially.

Bell was grateful for having the black stripe peeled off to reveal the iconic scarlet stripe down the middle of the helmet.

“I just want to thank God, ‘I just want to say ‘I love you mom,'” Bell told teammates in a short ceremony. “And I appreciate y’all boys for bringing me into the brotherhood. Appreciate coach Hart, coach Jordan, coach Day, coach Mick. Go Bucks!”

Bell becomes the eighth freshman to shed his black stripe as we steamroll our way to the start of the season. If anyone else gets recognized and baptized into the brotherhood, we’ll have it for you.
