Tom Izzo confirms Spartans to host major SEC program this season

by

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo has confirmed a fellow hall of fame coach will be coming to the Breslin Center for a non-conference battle this season.

The Spartans will play host to John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks for a marquee non-conference game this upcoming season. This game was previously reported, but it has not yet been officially announced, with Izzo confirming the game will take place on a recent interview with CBS Sports Jon Rothstein.

Izzo also confirmed this will be a home-and-home series, with the Spartans expected to play at Arkansas during the 2026-27 season. During the interview with Rothstein, Izzo told a story of how the home-and-home was scheduled this summer, with a jokingly shot taken at Calipari.

“John called me this summer and wanted to play a home-and-home,” Izzo said on the show. “He must hope I’m down a little bit or something because you know John, he’ll never play on the road. But I think it is going to be great.”

Michigan State is set to play some of college basketball’s biggest brands this upcoming season with games now confirmed against Kentucky (Champions Classic), North Carolina (Fort Meyers Tipoff), Duke (home game) and Arkansas (home game). The Spartans will also be playing an exhibition game at UConn this season.
