Report: Xavier forward Gabriel Pozzato to miss time after knee surgery

by

The offseason injury bug has once again bit Xavier men’s basketball.

This time, it’s Evansville transfer small forward Gabriel Pozzato, who will miss an extended amount of time after undergoing surgery for a meniscus injury suffered during summer workouts, according to a report from Rick Broering of Musketeer Report. Pozzato committed to Xavier April 12.

Xavier forward Gabriel Pozzato (0), an Evansville transfer, averaged 14.6 points per game last season for the Purple Aces. He will miss time for the Musketeers after a knee injury.

In 2023, Xavier lost two of its frontcourt starters in the offseason in Jerome Hunter and Zach Freemantle. Last year, starting center Lassina Traore suffered a torn ACL with less than a month before the start of the regular season.

While there’s plenty of time to speculate who will fill out Richard Pitino’s starting rotation in his first season at Xavier, Pozzato appeared prime for a big role after averaging 14.9 points per game at Evansville last season. He was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman team along with fellow first-year Musketeer All Wright.

A four-star transfer and a top 75 overall player in the portal at the time of his commitment, Pozzato came to Xavier with three remaining seasons of eligibility.

Pozzato missed eight games last season for Evansville due to a back injury.

Xavier has an exhibition contest at home against Murray State Oct. 18 before opening the 2025-26 season at Cintas Center against Marist No. 3.
