As we reported earlier here on WrestlingHeadlines.com, authorities are investigating possible medical malpractice in the death of Hulk Hogan. Hogan passed away on July 24th, with his death initially ruled a heart attack. New information suggests that a surgical error may have played a role.
According to a Clearwater Police Department report on the 911 call from Hogan’s home, an occupational therapist was present when he stopped breathing. The therapist reportedly told responding officers that Hogan had been the victim of medical malpractice, alleging that a surgeon had “severed” his phrenic nerve during a recent operation. The phrenic nerve is responsible for stimulating the diaphragm, which controls breathing. Multiple sources said Hogan did not experience chest pain before his death, but instead suddenly stopped breathing. His widow, Sky Daily, was the one who called 911.
Daily later confirmed that Hogan’s phrenic nerve was “compromised” in one of his surgeries, though it remains unclear whether the procedure was related to his heart or neck.
The Clearwater Police Department has since confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. In a statement, the department said,
“We have been in communication with family members — including his son, Nick, and daughter, Brooke. The unique nature of this case has required us to interview multiple witnesses and seek medical records from a variety of providers, and our detectives continue to do that. All of this takes time. The Hogan family has been appreciative of our efforts and our communication with them.”
A report from TMZ adds that officers discussed the therapist’s claims on body cam footage, which is currently being reviewed. Hogan’s daughter, Brooke, has called for an autopsy and suggested to radio host Bubba the Love Sponge that “something bad” may have happened to her father. She also stated that the police body cam footage from the morning of his death could shed light on what occurred. So far, both Brooke and Bubba The Love Sponge have been fairly accurate with their accusations.
As noted, Daily has since revealed that an autopsy was conducted but declined to disclose the results for one reason or another. She also confirmed that Hogan’s body has not yet been cremated, despite him passing away nearly a month ago.
