How Bralan Womack’s commitment affects Auburn’s standing in the 2026 recruiting rankings

by

Auburn football snagged the nation’s No. 1 safety for the 2026 recruiting cycle on Thursday when Bralan Womack announced his commitment to Auburn over Ohio State.

Womack’s pledge is proof that Auburn has worked to overcome a summer rough patch when it tanked in the recruiting rankings after losing several blue-chip commitments. However, the Tigers’ coaching staff never wavered and has now rebuilt its class by landing nine commitments since June 9, which includes three four-star recruits in addition to the five-star prize in Womack.

Hugh Freeze and his staff have overcome many obstacles, but are far from finished piecing together another top-10 class. Womack’s commitment shot Auburn up to No. 35 in 247Sports’ 2026 recruiting rankings, which translates to a No. 12 in the SEC. With Womack’s commitment, Auburn now ranks ahead of Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Kentucky, and Missouri, and is just over three points away from overtaking Ole Miss, and is eight points away from cracking the top 10 in the conference.

Womack admitted that the opportunity to make a great impact, as well as the relationships he built with Auburn’s coaching staff, led him to commit to Auburn. He spoke with Tom Loy of 247Sports following his commitment announcement about the bond he has built with Auburn defensive coordinator DJ Durkin and safeties coach TJ Rushing.

“From the get-go when they offered in January, he told me that they are going to do everything to make up for the time they had lost. They did that. They showed up when they said they would,” Womack said of Auburn and Rushing. “They showed up when it mattered. They offered, and then they were there to visit me the next day. He was there at my 5 AM workout. Coach Durkin and Rushing were very interested the entire time, and they made me a priority. They did all of the small things right.”
